The Impact of Involved Parenting, Guardianship and Caregiving on Curbing Child Abuse

During her Presentation at the 18th ANNUAL NATIONAL SAPSAC CONFERENCE ON: CHILD ABUSE,  on the 8th of  August 2017, Victorine Mbong Shu highlighted that as a community, “We have to bring back the culture that saw children treated as the property of the society, where they were collectively parented. Where parents looked out for them in order to maintain cultural and societal values and not for safety and security. We have to parent as our parents did in the times when parents did not need to feel like ‘not being there’ was synonymous to leaving children vulnerable.”
Victorine is passionate about parenting and is spending a lot of her time informing and educating parents on their roes in what their children ultimately become ‘It is not like parents are not often aware; she says ‘It is just that t hey get carried away by other challenges of life. I continue with the conversation”
Victorine is the mother of South Africa’s youngest multiple award winning author, and Mail and Guardian’s 2017 Most Influential Young South African, Stacey Fru.
